The Rebholz Style is first and foremost the product of its soils.

Good soils are matter of taste- in a very literal and direct sense. So it is a good thing that many thousands of years ago a geological disaster, the Rhine valley rift, brought a remarkable variety of geological treasures to the light of day.

With in-depth knowledge of these soils and skilful hands, the Ökonomierat and his son Hans looked for and found their vineyards of choice, including some that nobody else wanted because they were considered inferior, and in problematic locations.

Today, precisely these sites are among the very best.
The Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc vines planted in a shell limestone of the Im Sonnenschein produce a complexity that can only result from a fortunate combination of variety and soil. In a similar way, the aroma-rich Gewürztraminer and our nimble Muskateller also profit from this location the Ganz Horn, a small parcel of land in the same site, our Riesling excels. It performs the minor miracle of producing exquisite peach, apple and apricot aromas from the diluvial shingle of the Queich brook.

Not far away, the Albersweiler Latt is a legendary Gewürztraminer that has been growing there for more than 60 years. It reliably delivers uniquely aroma-rich, straw-colored wines. Meanwhile, another, extremely, stony, rugged piece of land has proved the most outstanding site, high up on the ridge of the Kastanienbusch hill. It was documented as a valuable viticultural location as early as 1828, in the Royal Bavarian Land Register. The rocky, rust-red soil is true primary rock, from the lower strata of “new” red sandstone. For our Riesling vines, penetrating this soil is endless exertion. They grow very slowly, and their yield is low.

But what they bring to the light of day is the very best we have to offer our Riesling lovers. A fragrance of herbs and flint, and the sweetness of apricots, are propelled by a vivacious acidity and minerality of this splendid soil.
